I bought a short M8 bolt at the hardware store, and I was shocked by the cost. I delayed buying an assortment online because they tended to be around $ 10 USD, but one 12mm bolt cost almost $2 USD. I was happy to have it the same day, but I ordered an assortment to avoid that again. The battery plug I printed was based on estimates of bolt dimensions, and my guess at the head diameter was wrong, so my print was too small to fit the bolt. I revised my dimensions with a shorter external grip, and I made one version where the brakes were in the center of the hexagon flats instead of the corners. I messed up, and the brakes intersected the top of their cutout, so they were immobile. I did learn that the model where I printed the brakes on the corners produced less printer spaghetti.
