2015-03-15 (Su) 3D Printed Automatic Tea Maker

There were a lot of fiddly little steps in todays work so I thought I would take periodic pictures and animate them to show the process I go through. Animation is eye-catching after all, right?

Enough background.

The 3D models of each piece were modified according to the To Do list. The key was modified to have a longer shaft then the winder was shortened and moved to the end. The purpose of the winder was to act as a cleat to keep the tea bag string out of the tea. If the winder was too long it could result in a dangling string.

The base was modified to use ovoid posts. At first the idea was to use ovoid and square edges by overlapping small rectangles and ovoids but this used more printer filament than necessary and the ovoid posts seem more aesthetic. The shape of the base could also be rounded to match the ovoid posts.

The platform posts were moved apart but due to a lucky happenstance of the way it was programmed the holes remained stationary. The distance between the holes was believed to be acceptable.

  • Correct 3D models
    • Round the posts for compatibility with larger cups
    • Increase clearances for servo
    • Lengthen the key shaft
    • Remove center of key
    • Shrink screw hole size over servo horn on key
  • Reprint 3D models
  • Download and test code
  • Debug code
  • Make code public
  • Design enclosure for screen, potentiometer, power, and buttons
  • Print enclosure
  • Draw schematic
  • Make notes for special Arduino functions
  • Build breadboard circuit
  • Compile and test
