Circuitry for infrared sensors was made with insertion-mount components, even an insertion-mount addressable LED. This was meant as a way to test the circuit and if it works another can be made with a two-layer board and surface-mount components. The largest component is easily the connector which is an RJ11 modular telephone connector. RJ11 was selected because buying coiled cords with RJ11 connectors is easy and they can be found at thrift stores.

One set of prints was made but it became clear that the mounting holes were not suitable since they would touch two circuit traces. This could easily be fixed by slicing the toner transfer but it was a poor design. Additionally, the holes for mounting the RJ11 didn't transfer.

The next revision of the circuit board had obvious screw holes as two concentric rings. The mounting holes for the RJ11 socket were highlighted by little cross-hairs.
