Scrapped Motors Don't Care About Direction
Motors from scrapped hard disk drives aren't the easiest to interface with because they are 3-phase. With the advent of all the brushless motors in hobbyist RC outlets that is increasing. A hacker reasoned that applying a single phase to one of the poles would make it spin, at least weakly. It also doesn't self-start, but it only takes a transformer.
