Some of the instructions for connecting Bluetooth modules suggested that it was possible to command the Bluetooth modules to connect upon startup automatically which would have been excellent news since they would legitimately act as a transparent data link. My modules did not do that, so the controllers needed a connection algorithm on each side of the data link.
Starting code for remote module to talk to Bluetooth

The first draft of the connection algorithm had lots of bugs. My experience with two-way serial communication was, limited, so many hurdles were in the way. A couple of LEDs were connected so the board could report its status when the computer's connection was replaced with the module. The first test was to ensure the boards were physically connected but debugging did not get that far.
