For some reason, the battery stopped working. I left the unit to charge overnight, but it would not run when I disconnected the charger. I accidentally shorted Vcc and GND, so I was worried that the voltage regulator was damaged. I probed around and proved there was voltage on the battery, and in the app, I could measure voltage. One oddity was that I could not get a reading on the BAT pin, and when I jumpered the battery lead to that pin, everything worked.
This connection restored operation

It was peculiar to find an open connection like this, so I can't be sure of any other board damage. As an early testing unit, I will keep using this hardware, but I added a short wire jumper between the incoming battery power, and the BAT terminal.
