2015-06-16 (Tu) Vibrating Distance Sensor

Integrating the flashlight's switch has been more difficult that expected. Since the project is meant to be highly repeatable a method with requires skill and tuning to build each time is not logical. This project may be built in the future by people with different skill sets so it must be as easy as possible. Two pieces were modeled which were meant to allow an ordinary tactile switch to be pressed by the flashlight's switch. The pieces were not meant to be printed exactly correct the first time but rather as a baseline of how to proceed. Unfortunately sloppy were made but enough information may be gleaned to modify the models appropriately.

The printed model came out of the printer cleanly but errors in the modeling were immediately evident.
  • The gap printed in the tube was on the wrong face.
  • The gap in the tube was too narrow for a switch.
  • The tube should have a cavity to make room for the flashlight switch.
  • The peg on the disc was too close to the edge.
None of these problems should be impossible to fix but the first and last mistakes especially could have been avoided with a little more planning.
