Gentle Electric Eel
I am not a big fan of snakes. Eels are kind of like snakes except they live underwater. A brightly colored swimming robot is more to my tastes. Although, unagi sushi is pretty great. Marine biologists have had to rely on miniature submarines for their remotely operated vehicles which look like machines and have propellers. Wildlife doesn't take kindly to such alien invaders. This project from the University of California uses soft robotics to make a swimming action with artificial muscles which doesn't seem to bother the wildlife.
