Smiling Robot Moves Without Wires
This little guy represents a simple way to move a permanent magnet across a printed circuit board. The basic idea is that the circuit board acts as a motor stator and the magnet acts as a rotor. With two layers printed on the circuit board, it is a simple matter to move the magnet in one or two directions simultaneously. In his project page, the creator describes it well.
