Each instrument has six parameters associated with it. The first was the name I was already displaying, but I also wanted to show the percent-chance-of-playing, velocity (volume), and octave shift. On top of these three, I had two bits that indicated if the percentage and or velocity would increase as I focused on a mood. I showed the value for each, but I also changed the text background to gray if the accompanying bit was high. In other words, if my velocity would increase, it would have a gray background; otherwise, it would always be at full intensity. For now, the last change was to display the word "Silent" if my percentage or velocity was zero since these instruments wouldn't play.
