I am not bragging about my athletic prowess, and some could generously describe my shape as "dad bod." I found a gym near me that offers Parkour and freerunning courses, and until I saw that, I had no interest in serious exercise outside of walking. On Sunday, the gym had an open house with four challenges, and they asked folks to post their successes on social media. My performance isn't the peak of my skill, but balancing on a beam without looking is tricky.
The second test was jumping from one wooden beam to another. There are taller metal bars between the beams, so it's a little intimidating because your toes could catch. Landing in control with stable balance is a beginner skill, and you can tell that mine are safe but not stylish or expert-looking.
The third test was climbing a box with a handle. Many folks were pulling this off without the handle or only using it for a moment before grabbing to box's edge. It was eight feet (2.4 meters) tall, and the handle was a couple of feet lower. Upper body strength is something I'm improving.
The final challenge was a coordination drill I've exercised many times called the Step Dance, which is two vaults performed one after another. First, I place one hand and the opposite foot on the obstacle, then pull my other foot through. The second half is switching hands and doing this backward. I did this routine twice.
