I've been trying desperately to get a drum sampler to play downloaded clips. The machine needs a specific sample rate and format, so Akai makes a converter, but roughly half of the conversions fail. Of the half that looks like they've converted correctly, I get an error saying the file is corrupt on the machine. I could convert the files with Audacity, but I saw a firmware update on the website. I ran the updater, and most of my files played perfectly even without conversion. I probably spent five hours laboring over how to make this sampler play arbitrary sounds, and it came down to an update.
My plan for the Akai is to control the sounds via MIDI from the PRandomBeats generator. This way, I'll be able to make beats more complex than the general MIDI selection.
