I finally, FINALLY, got suitable threaded rods. I purchased 100mm fully threaded M3 rods from Amazon. I installed three countersunk screws in the bottom piece, but I should have used a countersinking bit instead of just tightening them down against a coupler nut. The magnetically-attached cover does not sit flush, and I should fix it. I have coupler nuts inside the device at each end of the threaded rod and bolts from the top and bottom. Everything is sturdy and secure.
I opened the program and reverted to the full version of the puzzles instead of the demonstration ones that could be solved with a couple of buttons that I used to test the light sequences. I solved a puzzle that tested every letter, then confirmed that the numbers worked. The KeyRyptex is complete and a suitable conversation piece for the coffee table.
