2023-08-23 (W) GrinderCompassMKII Brass bars and heavy weights

I bought a brass strip to make a spring supporting a weight near one of the spinner's beads. I bent the flat, narrow metal around to attach at the top support and terminate near the bottom. There was little movement without a weight, so I soldered a #6 brass nut, but I still did not see much jiggling. I replaced the nut with a short brass bolt, but I only got something working when I added two nuts at the bottom.

I repositioned the bolt so it sat inside the spring and saved a lot of room. I adjusted the nuts on the brass bolts to approximately the ideal height, but the bolts pinning the spinner also permitted some fine-tuning. I can get some motion, but I need a weaker spring to get enough movement from the brass.
The brass is still too stiff
