If you're not familiar with this book, read this otherwise you'll just be reading spoilers below.

Dawson reached a breaking point where he lashed out at people. He was frustrated by the harm caused to his family and partially from his inability to protect them himself. First, he lashed out at Jason who was opening himself up in the first place. Jason was angry enough to swear, a first, and storm off, another first. After that ordeal, he lashed out at Vani who snapped back twice as hard. She left when Liz called and Dawson checked his phone.

Liz was feeling better after talking to Charley but she had heard about everything between him and Jason so she was doing damage control on that. She talked him through the situation in a way that should become regular in their relationship.
