The final light pattern, for now, was to turn on the number of lights that corresponded to that layer. In other modes, if the keyboard was in layer one, it would ignite one segment, and layer three would show three lights. This was immediately useful since counting the LEDs was more natural than remembering which layer corresponded to which color.

Color and number indicating layer

Not a lot of light was generated by this animation, and no more than half of the lights were ever used so the code was added that would also ignite the LEDs starting at the end, under the condition that there were at least twice as many LEDs available as there were keyboard layers.
