I knew I needed to start looking closely at the Z Gyro readings to start the directional sense. Imagine the M5StickC is sitting on your shoulder with the screen pointing toward the sky. If you twist your body to look to your left, you are rotating about the Z-axis as far as the IMU is concerned. When I observed the readings, they were much different than the accelerometer, so I wrote a program to display the minimum and maximum values. The center button reset them. I recorded values from -500 to 500 with a tendency to hover slightly negative when resting. I may have to correct for this resting variability, but that is a problem for the future.
