Gravy Shock, aka Granica, was never far from my mind, and I wanted to gamify part of the world. The mechanics of my card game, Distorted Mansion, could have been better, but I have had time to reapproach it and am ready to make another attempt. I am discarding the haunted house theme for an asteroid mining expedition. Instead of hunting for clues and being harassed by ghosts, players will mine for valuable minerals while dodging meteoroids.
The biggest problem with the game was that players needed more of a choice on their turn, so this reimagining is my attempt to improve the gameplay. The graphics I used in Distorted Mansion feel rudimentary compared to what is currently possible with AI image generation. 3D model generation has just come onto the scene, and some shapes, like asteroids, already look passable.
I plotted out my plans for improving the rules by trying to remember them from Distorted Mansion without rereading them so my mind could fill in the blanks without picking up the old baggage. I wrote a couple of pages of notes with some possibilities for new win-conditions and more variety in player choices.
