The last changes to the internal cage were to help fit the magnet inside with a couple of steel balls. I shortened the structure considerably, and everything still fit, but now the bottom cleats are so far from the rubber band that it does not make sense to try joining them, or they would be too tense to move. Even with only one rubber band, there is not much movement when I shake the structure. I should try a looser elastic.
