I priced PCB assembly through a couple of fabrication houses, but it was prohibitively expensive for an untested circuit. Even though the design was simple, I have learned a few lessons about going all-in on a first pass. I added an unpopulated board to my cart, which was affordable, but the shipping was double the product cost. I designed a second board with holes where the LED lenses were, but no components. This second version was a light channel board, which allowed me to create tunnels by stacking three boards together so the light would disperse before exiting the tunnel. If I attach a semi-opaque layer to the top, I can make a crisp light effect that does not hurt anyone's eyes. When the boards arrive, I will solder some LEDs by hand to confirm the circuit is usable, then make any changes and place an order for the fully assembled units.
