2025-10-14 (Tu) BonfireLaserTag X-Shot wiring

The next step to converting the X-Shot was mounting the hardware and prepping the wires. I gave up on the idea of making my modifications reversible so they would not interfere with the gun's operation. My options for mounting the emitter in the barrel were limited, and I resorted to one of my least-favorite methods: using hot glue. I do not plan to convert more guns similar to this one since the most logical solution is putting all the hardware into a chassis tube. This tagger will be a remarkably low-profile conversion due to the extra work spent on spreading out the hardware.

The LED ring and emitter required five wires, and I chose to land them on a 1"x 1" prototyping PCB and add three pairs of screw terminal blocks. I will have to route wires around the rotating gun mechanism, but I have a secure place to start. I drilled into the screen holder with a 4mm bit. I went slowly enough this time that I did not shatter anything. It took over three minutes of light pressure with two sharp bits. I ran the wires out the bottom and sealed up the enclosure. I considered modeling a wireway that would strap to rails, but the battery holder was in the way.
