2026-07-25 (Sa) EleKSCo REV05 Switch options

The switch turned out to be the most challenging design concept. I wanted something completely sealed, low-profile, heavy action, and tactile. My ideal switch was a raised ring in the middle of the handle that users would squeeze to activate the knife. Putting it in the middle and all the way around meant that someone could operate it backward and impress the crowd with a woefully impractical reverse grip. I love the spectacle though. A more unusual idea was to make an enclosure with an infrared LED, switch, and battery that would shine through the handle and activate a photoreceptor. The advantage was that I would not need a hole to pass wires. The disadvantage was that it might misbehave in sunlight. I considered external magnets that triggered internal magnetic reed switches, but those have been unreliable to me. The idea that I settled on was an ordinary switch, but I would use the bolts as conductors, and that should still keep most of the dust out.
