I wanted to keep all the wires hidden and avoid plugging gaudy test jumpers into the header sockets. I tried to solder to the back of the headers, but there was not enough metal to connect anything, and they were hidden deep inside the wood frame. I removed the header sockets, cleared the mounting holes, and tried adding black stranded wires to the front. The stranded wire was too troublesome to insert cleanly, so I switched to solid wires. I expected to wire the entire clock today, but getting through the front side was enough. If I ever revise this project, I would arrange the headers so they can connect with straight jumpers instead of crossing wires.
