2025-05-30 (F) Weekly Summary

I slimmed down the design and added shallow cleats that I sized for orthodontic elastic bands. I picked these because they were inexpensive, durable, and could withstand being stretched to their limit a few times without breaking.
Slim design meant for elastic bands

I cut a few test covers, and they looked amazing. The elastic bands were prone to slipping off, but I will redesign the cleats to hold them securely.
Cut, engraved and assembled

I made several iterations of the design, and I hope that they will work well enough to keep the jimmy hidden between the wooden slats without hiding the graphics engraved in the wood. Some still used the cleat design, albeit deeper than before, while some used notches instead.
Designs for elastic bands

I cut the four new designs and added some experimental text to demonstrate how different line weights look when engraved with the laser. Next, I will test the keychains.
REV2 designs rendered in wood

I drafted several new designs for the JimmyBadge keychains, including capsules, computer keycaps, circles, and feathers. After seeing a suggestion for a "Time" theme on the forum, I drafted a simple clock face and designed small clocks to fit the keychain. I also made a second circle keychain with thicker letters and avoided cutting a circle in the middle.
Six decorations

We talked about Gurren Lagann with Todd Black, who was promoting Tokyo Blade Detectives. Check out the promo video on his Kickstarter, if nothing else. The majority of the show focused on the problematic aspects of Gurren Lagann, but we took a moment to acknowledge the good things it brought to the table.
