2025-08-03 (Su) BonfireLaserTag Wiring to microcontroller

The final bit to solder was the microcontroller demo board. I selected a 4x6cm prototyping PCB as the base so that I would not have to solder directly on the board. I added female header sockets to make the boards removable and provide some protection as I worked. I added three pull-up resistors for the trigger, aux button, and one spare. The bundle of wires was a daunting mess, so I soldered the black ground wires to a common bus and then the 3.3V wires to the power source. There was only one 5V line. The infrared LED and LED ring were easily visible when looking into the pipe, as was the trigger switch. The final and most challenging was the screen with its six unlabeled wires. I used a continuity tester to figure out each conductor. I drew up an IO list that correlated the Arduino pins and the screen pins. I kept track of my changes on the drawing.
