I received the new boost regulators and installed the incoming voltage on one to set the adjustable output. I set it to 5.00V, but when I connected the microcontroller, it failed. The Amazon product page said that failures were common, but before I removed it to try another, I did some more troubleshooting. I tested the output with a small self-powered volt-meter, and it showed the battery's voltage instead of the boosted reading like my DMM. These readings told me that the system could not supply the necessary current to run any load. I left it alone for a bit to think and accidentally left the battery connected, so I swapped it out with a fresh one. With the new battery, I could power the microcontroller, LEDs, and IR emitter. The problem was probably my battery the whole time. My old regulator may not be burned out.
