I gathered parts to assemble the printed hardware for the NERF gun and X-Shot foam-dart guns. I immediately realized that I needed a battery holder that could connect to rails, Weaver rails in this case. I started by gently positioning rail adapters on top of a battery holder. Then, I decided it was silly to go through the trouble of calculating the dimensions perfectly when I could more easily position them in my printing software. To make the parts more purpose-built, I removed unnecessary features, such as the curve on the battery holder that was intended to meet the chassis pipe, and I removed the mounting bolt holes from the Weaver and NERF rails. I combined them and started a six-hour print.
The next thing I wanted was a hole-drilling template for mounting the USB port and emitter assembly. The shape was already part of the old emitter lens cap, so generating the part was simple. However, one problem with the old version was that it was too large for my printer platen. I printed it at an angle, but it took three hours instead of the original 25 minutes.
While I planned the accessory parts, the battery holder finished printing, but it failed partially, and one of the mounting feet was partially printed. I can make it work.
