We were joined by Braxton Cosby, who recently completed his Yasuke series [Amazon link], a historical fiction about Japan's only black samurai. He talked about his research for the book and why it excited him to write it. He chose the movie The Last Samurai, which was a good choice, on paper. The movie had many problematic issues, aside from starring Tom Cruise, who was also a producer. We did not need much time to talk about what we liked about the movie, and spent a lot of time making social commentary.
