2026-04-04 (Sa) RedCabbageTattoo Color-changing functionality

My wife told me about some scientists testing tattoos that could change color based on interstitial fluids. The paper mentioned that these tattoos were not viable as mainstream inks because they were not reversible. The paper was about the concept of inks that continuously monitored chemical levels and could be read at a glance.

The paper also mentioned that red cabbage extract (RCE) was reversible. RCE monitored pH or acidity. I gathered some RCE, vinegar, baking soda, and mixing implements in my kitchen to test its reversibility.

Testing confirmed that RCE could change back and forth when exposed to acids and bases in any order. This success was exciting news since it may be a viable tattoo ink.
