2026-04-10 (F) Weekly Summary

I read a paper that showed how tattoo inks could be reactive with interstitial body fluids. The main problem is that most were not reversible. The exception was red cabbage extract, which might be effective. I bought some and tested it in my kitchen by exposing it to vinegar and baking soda, and it could change back and forth.

My wife and I smeared a paste of water and red cabbage extract on our arms for a few hours to see if it would irritate or stain them semi-permanently. Neither of us observed any irritation or staining.

I performed a minor stick-and-poke procedure using a sterile needle and a 3D-printed handle. I am unsure if I drove the ink in deep enough because it looked fine immediately after inserting, but it faded after a couple of days. I do not think this is a viable ink.

The Rebel Loon was a wonderful icon of Minnesota resisting ICE, and I wanted to include it on a whistle being used to fight fascism. I found and vectorized the loon and extruded it into a 3D graphic. I modeled a circular whistle and combined them into a functional and wearable piece.

I found some clever designs on Thingiverse where designers were beefing up house keys to make them easier to use for people with arthritis and low dexterity. I hunted around and found the least finicky one.

We watched The Hustler (1961) and its sequel, The Color of Money (1986), to celebrate the launch of Fred's latest Fisticuffs issue coming soon. Amanda listened to the first audiobook to compare it with the movie and read the synopsis of the second book, but we had connection problems and had to be brief with the review.
