2026-04-24 (F) Weekly Summary

I went to the lumberyard to buy a sheet of plywood for the piano base, but I spied a round piece of wood that might be used as a barstool top. It was large enough and similar in price to the wood I would have to cut, so I bought the round. I printed the hole pattern on six sheets of paper so I can mark and drill the wood next.

I had the parts for my base, but I needed to mark the center accurately, so I modeled a center-finder. The two equidistant legs mean that the groove in the top will always point to the circle's center, so when I place a ruler there, I can easily draw a couple of lines to the middle.

One way to fasten the piano face to the circular wooden platform was a uniform spacer that ensured every fastener was the same length. I made a hexagonal hole in the bottom so that when I put a hex coupler in there, the coupler will always be the same distance from the top of the piano, and I can secure the couplers to the circular wood I just bought.

When I designed the keycaps, I did not account for the wires coming off the switches and LEDs, so there was a lot of friction, and the keys often stuck. I changed the model to add some clearance at both ends, but I may have to reprint all 36 caps.

I should not have waited so long to stain the circular wood block. When I stained the first parts of the piano, I made a mess of my hands, and I forgot to wear gloves again, so the finish looked great, but my fingers looked rough.

We watched Atomic Blonde to celebrate the Kickstarter for Sarah's comic, Noctiluca, a fun and sexy spy comic written and drawn by women. The movie we watched, Atomic Blonde, was a sexy spy thriller, but it had the problems that Hollywood usually brings, so the misogyny was a tough pill to swallow. We did not enjoy it as a whole, but we could all point out some things worth seeing.
