2026-04-29 (W) Fisticuffs Concept and model

My friend, Fred Schwartz, and I were talking about 3D printers, and he was curious about the technology, but never had much use for it in his line. He asked about printing action figures, and we talked about how the tricky part was creating a 3D model, while printing was relatively easy. I also mentioned that I had seen some interesting ways to convert images into AI-generated models. Fred gave me permission and some original artwork from the illustrator of his comic.

We started with a clear sketch of The Bloom, a villain from his comic Fisticuffs. The Bloom was a human who transformed into a destructive bloomin' onion many times larger than a person. I tried to turn the sketch directly into a 3D model, but the results were unusable and unprintable. The technique that worked was turning the sketch into a highly detailed 3D-looking image, then putting it into a 3D converter. The intermediate drawing looked pretty cool, but the most important thing was that it added the shading, textures, and overall shape.
