2026-06-22 (M) Critical Affection: Monsoon Wedding

Chad P joined us to talk about Monsoon Wedding (2001), which was one of Amanda's first picks. We generally enjoyed the movie, but Fred and Chad accidentally watched versions that did not subtitle Hindi dialogue, so they missed critical parts. The characters switched languages repeatedly, which was a custom and done for English-speaking audiences, but without translation, it was merely confusing. They compared it to being at a restaurant where people switch to another language, look at you, and laugh. Despite the language barrier, they both appreciated the film for what it did well, such as character development, plotlines, and immersion.
