My wife and I went to Open Sauce for the first time in 2026, and I started the day by spotting Integza, who spoke with me for a couple of minutes, and he was as charming as his rocketry videos. My wife and I saw some delightful booths run by amazing inventors, showcasing delightful products for the community. I cannot wait for next year's festival.
I tried everything I could think of to get Bluetooth MIDI working. I found an example that downloaded to my device, but I could not see it during a Bluetooth scan, and I could not get the serial port working, even after enabling it in the settings.
I printed updated parts for the EWC_Mobile. The keyswitches required desoldering for removal, and I will reconnect them when I add all the signal wires between the encoders, switches, and microcontroller. The new knobs are more durable and easier to turn, but taller.
I divided the wiring process into two stages: first, adding long wires to the operators, and second, connecting them to the circuit board. I did the first step by measuring the longest wire I needed, cutting copies, and soldering leads to all the encoders and keyswitches.
I looked more deeply into the problem with serial port feedback on the ESP32-S3 and decided it was likely incompatible with MIDI over USB. Since I have a screen I can use for status, I will work around it.
I'm developing a new electric knife inspired by my observations of existing models, particularly those by Elliot Roth and Satur9. My design is a sealed, tubular polycarbonate case to prevent dust issues from the sand pit at Grindfest, and it will feature aluminum plates for durability, covered with a plastic edge. This time, I'm using more 3D-printed parts for strength and have sourced reliable components directly, rather than scavenging.
