2026-08-28 (F) Weekly Summary

I developed a new tensioning design for the power socket plate that uses wedge-shaped pieces that jut out when I draw them closer with M3 bolts in the plate and nuts on the back of the wedges.

The power receptacle plate has been the most challenging piece so far and required multiple revisions. After several iterations to correct the alignment of bolt holes and peg sizes, I finally designed a simple peg and a thick plate for better installation and alignment in the pipe.

I tried mounting an inline barrel connector to the front of my battery holder, but I could not get the threads into the plastic. I drilled the hole out a few times, but eventually made it too big and the connector fell through. I changed the model, then tested the spring, and that worked wonderfully.

The butt cap's petals needed flexibility to expand, but if I merely made a gap under the petals, they would require support material during printing, and that would get trapped. After thinking it through, I realized it would not make any difference, since that material should not interfere. I added the gap and started a print.

After finishing my prints, I used my tap set on the butt cap to insert an M6 bolt, but I initially nicked some petals while drilling. Although the bolt did not expand the petals as intended. The battery holder worked when I tapped the hole to M8, the barrel plug threaded in perfectly! Once assembled, the butt cap and battery holder fit together securely, and everything held up well during jostling.
