I was still working out ideas for making the butt caps more secure. The problem I noticed was that the bolt threads would start cutting into the petals instead of parting them. I sketched an idea for a specialty bolt with a rounded top and asked a mechanical engineer if such a thing existed. He did not know of anything, but suggested I could machine my own, and if rounding the end was too much trouble, I could cut a conical tip with a chamfering tool. I tried the ball bearing method when I got home, and it mostly worked. I tightened the bolt until I could not pull the cap out by hand, but when I loosened it, the bearing stayed in place, and I had to dislodge it with a screwdriver. A chamfered bolt would be more convenient.
I tested the switch holster, and the cavity was clearly too shallow. My switch stuck out so far that I could not mount it on a pipe. I updated the switch depth in the model, and it broke. I did not have sufficient coverage between the spacer mounts and the switch mount. I added a check to use the taller distance and ensure there would always be a bridge between the two, and printed a new switch holster. The switch and spacers fit nicely and sat flush with the bottom, but the switch cap did not fit into the holster well. I printed a cover, cut it did not mesh well, so I need to revise those models.
