The external switch model was nearly complete. I expanded the switch holster model to be deeper so it would fit the switch. I added a lip on the top inside since the button cap had a ridge at the bottom. I had to trim the edges of the previous button cap to make it fit. Previously, I made the switch hole almost large enough to fit the whole cap, but I could tighten it and reduce the unnecessary gap. The previous switch holster was weak because I carved out space for the switch that was unnecessarily wide to allow room for the electrical leads, but once I accounted for how little room they needed, the walls could be thicker and still fit the switch.
I printed both halves of the new model, but they did not fit. I assumed this was due to a mismatch of dimensions and made a cutaway view of the model to see exactly where I was off the mark. The issue was that I was not taking off enough from the flat plane between the holster and the cover. I printed new copies of the cover, and they fit wonderfully. The final test was adding a layer of elastic material. I chose nitrile since it was hypoallergenic. The material was from a disposable exam glove, and I appreciated the black. I stuffed a small scrap into the cover and pushed the holster inside. When I overstretched the nitrile, it accidentally held the button. I trimmed the glove material inside and was delighted to have a usable, covered switch.
