Adding long wires to the operators was faster than terminating them on the correct PCB pad, so I focused on landing the pushbutton inputs and left the LED outputs for later. The inputs required me to place wires outside the IO expander's footprint, then make a bridge between them and the board's pin. The pull-up resistors sat neatly underneath the board. A few of my wires were too long, and I trimmed them, but none were too short.
